Corn is the third largest crop in the world after wheat and rice and has the highest yield of all grains. Corn can be grown in agroeconomic belts around the world.
Corn is suitable for growing in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions, and the optimum temperature is 18-33°C. Rainy and standing water during pollination will result in lower yields.
Maize prefers fertile, well-drained, well-watered, deep loamy soil, with an optimum pH range of 7.0 - 8.5. When the soil EC is higher than 1.7 dS/m, the yield will decrease.
Generally, the row spacing is 0.15-0.25 m × 0.80-1.15 m, and the sowing depth is 3-5 cm.
Drip irrigation can create soil conditions with uniform humidity and good air permeability, directly transport water and nutrients to crop roots, and reduce fertilizer and water consumption while increasing production. Therefore, drip irrigation is the most cost-effective irrigation method in corn planting.
